————————————————————————————————————————-

The Irish government decided back in 1986, by passing a National lottery Act, to start running a national Irish Lotto. The main contribution of the lottery to Irish society can be found in Health System, sports and art support.

While the National Lottery started first selling scratch cards in March 1987, they launched the first Irish Lotto draw back in March 1988. At the beginning you could only buy tickets through a local retail agent.

Yet, since March 2009, you can also buy online lottery tickets for the Irish Lotto.

The big change came in 2013. Hence the major economic crisis, the Irish State decided than a private operator will run the National Lottery for a 20 year period. This license started running on 27 February 2014 and the private operator payed €405 million to the Irish Government. Finally, the license is hold by Premier Lotteries Ireland.

Irish Lotto Rules

Irish Lotto was launched as a classical 6/36 balls lotteries ad changed to 6/39 (1992) after a brute force attack by a syndicate group. At 1994 it became a 6/42 game in order to decrease the winning odds and by this way increasing the rolling jackpots.

While the Irish Lotto adopted the 6/45 game mode at 2006, finally it was changed at September 2015 to the actual 6/47 lottery, including the “bonus ball”. This means you need to hit six numbers out of 47 balls.

In consequence, they increase the odds against winning, but they also increase the prize value of the second prize to around €100,000. In addition, they also included a prize for two balls matching plus the bonus ball.

While the minimum play is of two rows of six numbers, with an actual price at retailers of €4 (€2 per line), the actual jackpots are up to almost €11,000,000.

Major Jackpots

While the minimum starting jackpot is set at €2,000,000, with the following changes in the number of balls through the years the winning odds decrease as the maximum rolling jackpot grew.

Up to today, the biggest jackpot paid by Irish Lotto is of €18,900,000 and was won on 26 of June 2008. The winners were 16 co-workers from a concrete factory in Bennekerry that bought a syndicate ticket.

Is Irish Lotto Legit?

If you are new to the lottery world and you encounter online for the first time the Irish Lotto tickets, you might ask yourself: is the Irish Lotto draw a scam?

We can tell you for sure that being support by the Irish Government and the National Lottery Act this is a very secure and safe lottery to play.

There is no record of issues with the Irish Lotto, beside the 4 February 2015 draw that was postponed due to problems with the ticket machines.

In conclusion, just select your 12 numbers with confidence, Irish Lotto is 100% secure.

Summary

Being the Ireland National Lottery since 1988, the Irish Lotto is one of the most popular draws all over UK.

The jackpots are not as the offered by the US PowerBall, Mega Millions or SuperEnalotto, but still winning millionaire prizes as the offered by Irish Lotto with a minimum price of €4 is a great deal.

We completely understand why this is one of the biggest lotteries available online, just give it a try, we are sure you will love it.
